In 2021 before we moved to Detroit, Mollie and I were able to attend a day full of sheep shearing at Prado de Lana’s farm in Western Massachusetts, where Amanda and Alberto raise Romney, Lincoln, and Romeldale/CVM sheep. These sheep produce the wool that becomes the Prado de Lana brand of yarn, which is some of my favorite that I’ve knitted with.
We had the privilege to watch Siri of Yankee Rock Farm shear somewhere around 50 sheep on her own while hardly taking a break. Shearing is a sort of lost art, so to be able to witness it in person was really fascinating.
